2.) It is a large coporation.
3.) My workplace is located in Hayward California.
4.) 22 staff emmbers are employed  on bret hartes campus.
5.) Anybody who has graduated both High School and has Certificates from some college is elidgible of employment.
6.) Most of the people at my internship have 4 year college degrees.
7.) My workplace serves children.
8.) A strength of my workplace is the way it reaches kids creatively.
9.) A weakness of my workplace is the way some of the staff members adress the kids, coming off as very disrespectful causing students to call parents up to the school.

1.) My mentor name is Ms.Estrada
2.) A typical day for her looks like dealing with many behavioral issues and meeting with parents to figure out how Bret Harte and further support their children.
3.) They became interested in this field because she had a mentor who inspired her. Ms Estrada also needed a certificate in Psychology to achieve the position she is at now working in school.

1.) My main responsibility is assisting my mentor with any cumbersome task. I also did not have a title.
2.) I will be doing peer mediations.
3.) A regular day would be me checking in with my mentor and figuring out if she had anything specifically she wanted me to attend to. After that I would meet with a few of the kids I was required to see everytime I checked in.

1.) For my project I am thinking about creating a video that shows me teaching a class of students different life skills.
2.) I came up with this idea because I knew that I wanted to work with the kids constructively the best way I could.
3.) I am excited to carry out this project for the next few weeks because it will help me get closer to gainning a basic experience at what it may be like practicing
developmental psychology.

1.) I created folders for individual students that agreed to participate in my Empowerment group. These different folders were made so that I can organize the different pieces of information I recorded from the students, for example; strengths with school , weakness with schools, struggles outside of school and a print out of their schedule. I did a lot of peer mediations today, which is when you facilitate a resolving conversation between two students that got into a conflict. My day was pretty much traveling class to class pulling different students that Staff members requested needed the most guidance and consulting.

2.) My mentor and I talked about how the idea of this Empowerment Group and things I've started doing can be incorporated into a detailed project. She first told me to start with a detailed description of the group itself and the things I hope to accomplish. After that she wanted me to explain the process I took in getting the group up and going. She also felt that describing what aspired me to follow through with this idea of a group focused on supporting kids that need role models in their lives and just somebody to talk to in general.

3.) I've gotten Permission Slips signed and turned back in, which was the representation of parents conscent with me reaching out to their children.

1.) I found myself using Communicating Powerfully and Thinking Critically the most out of all the other 21st century leadership skills.

2.) I personally think that I am using the skill Communicating Powerfully best, because anytime I feel like I am not being understood I rephrase whatever was said so that It could be retained easier. I am aware that I need to improve in speaking my truth to the kids, instead of just talking at them vaguely I need to do a better job at directly conveying things to them in a way they can relate to.

3.) In using the skill Critical Thinking it helps me out a lot when working at my WLE because I tend to go into a deeper thought process on what I want to say and how I can connect things like statistics or events that happen in everyday life to a bigger message that I am trying to convey to the kids. For example, when talking to some of the kids that tend to goof off and feel that they don't have to take school seriously I show them the statistics of how much more money you accumulate when achieving a High School diploma and graduating school compared to those who have flunked out.

4.) My mentor uses Productive Collaboration a lot at my internship because she is a councelor so when she doesn't have the answer to certain questions she reaches out to other colleagues of hers that do. She also has to do behavoral meetings where all the students teachers are involved in brain storming plans that will essentially keep the student out of trouble and on the right track to being successful. In this scenario they are collaborating productively because they communicate the different areas of growth and struggle for the student and try to set goals that will help motivate and inspire him/her to do better.

BLOG # 7

1.) I learned that I am able to provide
examples of things people have struggled with in a way that serves as a Life
lesson.

2.) A challenge I faced throughout the period of
this project was when kids were very angry at certain things they somewhat shut
down and became close minded. Instead of giving me insight they somewhat faught
against me unaware that I am here to help them. To overcome these struggles I
would allocate a lot of time to figuring out different ways to express to the
kids that I am here to help them and not out to get them like some of the
teachers they feel pick on them.

3.) Intering at Bret Harte furthered increased
my aspiration of becoming a Psychologist because I got to expereince what I'd
actually be doing if I emulated the field of study my mentor Ms.Estrada masters
in. A life lesson I learned is that some of the mistakes I made previously
actually has a positive side to the outcome, because essentially I have a good
story to tell that conveys the message of What you should and should not be
doing.

4.) My creativity was put to use in this
activity because I had to apply certain skills in the field of Cognitive
Psychology. My mentor taught me that Cognitive Psychologist tend to explore and
analyze internally the way people solve problems and what effects their emotions
have on these deicisions. For example, in my project I sometimes had to sit in
on peer mediations and figure out why some kids acted out the way they did and
how they were feeling at the time provoked this.

5.) My WLE placement had a positive affect on
the Bret Harte Staff and mainly the students I was working closely with. The
reason I helped the staff is because some membres communicated to me that the
students they set me up with are typically the most difficult students to
support behaviorally and academically. Bret Harte Staff never gives up on a
student but since I started a Empowerment Group they decided to put the kids
struggling most in it so that I can be a positive role model to them;
Psychologically breaking down to them that their behavior tends to affect their
productivity academically.

6.) I believe that everybody can give back to
their community in some way, not only money but by simply being a positive
contribution somehow.

7.) A skill that I learned how to apply at my
WLE was analyzing peoples internal mental states, such as; Ideas, Beliefs and
motivations. For example, when working with the more difficult and rebellious
kids I had to give them things to brain storm incentives that would stimulate
the motivation to improve academically.

8.) If someone were to ask me why what I did at
my WLE was important, I would tell them; I gained basic foundations and little
experience in some of the trades and techniques of Psychologist which gives me a
heads up on what I aspire to minor in.

9.) One thing I learned from my WLE that I will
apply to the rest of my life is; being open to try new things because you will
soon find yourself not living to the fullest when you limit yourself to old
habits.

1.)  Reflecting back to when I first started the WLE process, I remember wasting time because I thought that it would be okay to go too the same Work Place Learning experience as last year. By the time I realized this was unacceptable it approached the Job Shadow day, which I ened up staying at school to book a interview with Ms.Davies the principal of Bret Harte Middle School. This interview between Ms.Davies and I regarded what I had in mind for a project and how it was going to be accomplished.
2.)  The most effective way for looking for a job and getting hired is by showing them that you are worthy of their time and space, to do this you should; dress professional, stay engaged and be an attentive listener.
3.)  As a result of my WLE I think being a professional or responsible adut in the work world means determining and properly brainstorming a field of work that is something you essentially enjoy. Being responsible would be; sitting down and maybe taking a Hobbie Survey pertaining to careers, so that you can narrow in on your talents and what you enjoy doing best.

Today I worked on  my presentation all day long, finishing my scaffold and flash cards. After I did that, I supervised campus clean up for students that got suspended from their classrooms.
As an intern I improved  because I am now able to host my own meetings with the kids.
The thing that makes my work place great is their Slogan, SWAG which is an acronym for Students With Academic Goals.

1.) I enjoyed the time I spent at my WLE because it helped me get closer to the sort of field I planned on majoring in. There were many valuable experiences on my WLE that I definetely am going to take away with me.
2.) This experience effected my goals in a positive way, because it makes me want to push harder at fufilling my major in psychology.
